22 postpartum meal delivery services for 2022

Perhaps you’ve experienced the cruel irony of the postpartum period before? You’re absolutely ravenous, your body in overdrive working to heal itself while supporting a newborn, but you don’t have TIME (or more to the point, any spare hands) to cook. Nutritious food isn’t just about satisfying postpartum hanger – it’s vital in helping you recover from birth, and it can even support your breastfeeding journey (if that’s how you choose to feed your babe).

So, how in hell does a postpartum mama get a decent meal?!

Of course you can hit up your friends to drop food over, or you can plan ahead and meal prep to your heart’s content. But there’s a lot to be said for meal delivery services too. That’s why we’ve written a whole article about them!

If you’re looking for the best postpartum meal delivery Sydney (and beyond) has on offer, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s what you need to know.

What’s a ‘meal delivery service’?

It’s your new BFF, mama. Generally, you’ll order your food online, and it can either come pre-prepared and ready to heat up, or as a box of fresh ingredients to cook up yourself.

In this day and age, meal delivery comes in all shapes and sizes. You can have hearty family-sized freezer meals dropped off for you just as easily as you can sign up to perfectly portioned, plant-based meal delivery plans (because vegan mums need that postpartum nutrition too!).

Take a look around at what suits you, and maybe try a few different ones.

What’s better – meal kits or ready-made meals?

This totally depends on your preference. You might love the home-cooked vibe of meal kits that you assemble yourself. Or, you might have zero culinary ability, making a heat-and-eat option the clear winner.

Pros of meal kit home delivery

  • Cuts out time spent grocery shopping and planning recipes.
  • Feels (and is) more fresh and ‘home-cooked’.
  • May be more generously portioned than pre-packaged meals.
  • Might make food assembly a nice reprieve from baby duties.

Pros of ready-made meals home delivery

  • Simple and convenient AF.
  • No cooking skills required.
  • Can be prepared one-handed – just pop it in the microwave or oven.
  • Can often be frozen and stored for desperate times.

A final note on postpartum-specific meal services

We searched high and low for the best meal delivery services specifically for postpartum that deliver Australia-wide, but couldn’t find one company to serve all you Aussie mums! There are, however, some beautiful, small kitchens producing postpartum meals for local mamas. Women in capital cities are more likely to have access to services like these, but we hope to see more postpartum-specific meal delivery services pop up in future. (And obvs we’ll tell you about it when they do.)
