Mumli stands with all mums

It’s World Breastfeeding Week this week. Our team had many discussions in the lead-up to this week around what this event meant to us, the content we wanted to create, and how we wanted to show up for our community.

Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing, and it deserves to be celebrated. The way our bodies are designed to connect with our babies, and the intricate system in which the breastmilk we produce aligns with our babies’ exact needs truly is incredible.

Breastfeeding mamas, we celebrate you.

But breastfeeding doesn’t always work out. For some mamas, no matter how much they want it to, or how hard they try, exclusively breastfeeding, or even continuing to breastfeed while supplementing isn’t an option.

Formula feeding mamas who are grieving the breastfeeding experience they missed out on, but still nourishing their babies, we celebrate you.

And to the mamas choosing not to breastfeed, who are not grieving a loss but making the right choice for themselves and their babies, we celebrate you.

Because whether you breastfeed, formula feed, exclusively pump or use donor milk, we are all dedicating just as much time to feeding our babies. We are all up just as often in the middle of the night. We are loving our babies just as hard, and worrying whether we are doing a good job just as often as each other.

There is much work to be done in supporting women who choose to breastfeed. But there is also much work to be done to support women who choose to feed their babies in the many other ways that we are lucky enough to have available to us.

This is why this week, we choose to hold up all stories and experiences as equal, with no one way of loving or caring for our babies as more important or valid than another.

All feeding is hard, all feeding is valid and all mums are incredible.
